What is the composition of Burnfree®?
It is predominantly di-ionized, pure water which is thickened with a gelling agent to enable the water to stay in place over the wound site. While water is effective as a first aid for burns, it is difficult to keep in place. Burnfree gels the water to allow for effective and easy cooling directly on the burn site. Burnfree also has a wetting agent with the gel system to allow better penetration of the water into clothing or debris imbedded in the wound. This wetting agent allows the softening of this material to help ease the debridement process. Burnfree's composition also includes a preservative system and evaporation inhibitor to control the cooling process. It is our design of the system that allows for the heat transference to the gel system without the danger of uncontrolled cooling through evaporation, which can lead to hypothermia.
