First Aid and Safety Online Information/ First Aid Kits

Posted by M. Sparks on Oct 26th 2016

First Aid and Safety Online Inc. was created in 2001 to provide an online shopping experience for our customers who were looking for an alternative to van delivery service of their first aid supply needs which cost an exorbitant amount of money. We found that by housing the needed first aid supplies in house and offering them online to our customers we could save them around 60% on their needed supplies each month and allowing them the opportunity to actually see what supplies were needed and then order online using our super easy to navigate national account program.

Our National Account Program was built with you the customer in mind. We wanted a user friendly method of ordering first aid supplies quickly and easily since we knew that your time is valuable and first aid supplies are typically not something people think about until they are needed. A friendly reminder is sent to each of your locations monthly reminding them to check their kits supplies for missing and or expired items that need to be replenished. If items are needed they log into their individual account to place an order which will be sent to our office for fulfillment, typically the same day and shipped out to them via FED EX or USPS. Our national account program is for companies with 1 location up to companies with multiple locations located across the country. We work with you to set up a customized list of supplies that you authorize and we create a web page just for your company. This customized list helps you to maintain a set supply of first aid items in each location keeping your locations stocked with the necessary items while helping keep cost down by only allowing authorized items to be ordered. All first aid orders over $50.00 ship for free and typically ship out within 24 hours of the order being placed.

We offer top name first aid products that range from first aid kits in different sizes to meet your locations needs. These kits range from heavy duty metal kits to hang on the wall to our portable kits perfect for remote jobsites or kits that will keep you covered while traveling in a vehicle or work truck. These kits contain all of the necessary first aid supplies such as bandages, wraps, gauze, antiseptics, ointments, burn treatment, pain tablets, eyewash, ice packs, tweezers, scissors, gloves and much, much more! As you can see each of our kits contain the proper mix of items needed to keep your employees safe, productive and on the job. OSHA Regulation CFR 1910.151 (b) states that in the absence of an infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity to the workplace which is used for the treatment of all injured employees, a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid. Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available. Our kits and monthly refill supplies help you adhere to this important OSHA regulation.

As stated in the Industrial Safety and Hygiene New (ISHN) article states the new regulations that The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) along with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved new standards for first aid kits and supplies ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2014, American National Standard-Minimum Requirements for Workplace First Aid Kits and Supplies. This new list was created by a group of leading industry stakeholders and then approved by a panel of health and safety experts consisting of unions, construction industry professionals and other groups, test labs and government agencies.

One of the biggest changes found from the previous regulations was the introduction of two classes of first aid kits which are based on the assortment and quantity of first aid supplies found in each class of kits unlike before all kits had a very basic list of required supplies regardless of the hazard the kit would be used for. The Class A first aid kits were specifically designed to deal with the most common workplace injuries, such as minor cuts, abrasions and sprains. The Class B first aid kits now include a much broader range of supplies and the quantities required have also increased to deal with injuries in more complex or high risk environments.

First Aid Kits are also now designated by Type (I, II, III, or IV) depending on the complexity of the work environment in which they are to be used. Also considered in this standard, are the anticipated numbers of users intended to be served by each kit. The amount of supplies of each kit will also vary depending on the factors listed above. Type 1, identifies the kits are to be used in doors and permanently mounted to a wall or other structure and then on the opposite end of the spectrum is the Type IV kits which are suitable for outdoor use and must pass test for corrosion, moisture and impact resistance. Using the multi-tiered approach to first aid kits allows the employer to make informed decisions based on each workplaces potential risk factors and or task load that employees are assigned each day. In the process of expanding the requirements of items in basic first aid kits, employees will now have access to the needed items used to treat injuries that occur on the jobsite as quickly as possible allowing them to be treated and return back to work quicker than before.

Many items that were only suggestions in the 2009 recommendations are now required items in first aid kits, such as scissors, splints and tourniquet which are required for Class B first aid kits.
